Special Religious Education (SRE) – regular lessons in public schools where parents are able to opt their children in to attending lessons about Jesus from approved curriculum.
How do I start out as an SRE teacher?
Here are the steps involved in becoming an SRE Teacher:
- Application Form – start here: sreauthorisation.paperform.co
- Child Protection – let the conduct protocol unit know your WWCC details by filling in this form
- SRE Training – complete the online training course
- Criminal Declaration – declaring any past criminal offences and promise to notify DoE of future offences
- Session Approval – your local church session must approve everyone who works with children.
- Lesson Observation – once you have your temporary authorisation, someone approved by your local session will observe you teaching a lesson and provide feedback
Once you’re finished this process, we’d love to pray with you and make sure we organise for your SRE teacher card to be sent to your church so your session clerk can sign it, and you can head into the classroom!
How do I keep up to date as an SRE teacher?
- Every year: two hours of continued SRE Teacher education
- Every three years: SRE Teacher renewal training and lesson observation – start here: sreauthorisation.paperform.co
- As needed: let CPU know about any updates to your WWCC details by filling in this form
