Sermon Outline Sheet for kids / youth

Coming out of a recent conversation on Facebook where a minister was asking for some resources – what is available to help churches create a handout for kids (or youth) take some notes during a sermon.

A few resources were shared:

  • a simple generic outline to use for any passage (via https://kristinsterk.com/sermon-notes-for-kids/)
  • what to include in a bespoke handout each week – a simplified heading for each point of your sermon, and a prompt to draw a picture, or some questions with fill in the blanks, and/or colouring sheets and word games related to the passage.
  • Using Microsoft Copilot to make a themed colouring-in sheet for those little ones who can’t read or write yet, based on the passage.
  • Lesson printouts – https://truewaykids.com/
  • Children’s pew bulletin (searching by age group, and downloading something relevant to the sermon passage, and also sermon notes they can use on a clipboard for those who want it.
  • Encouraging parents to give kids a notebook to bring week by week in which they can take notes, or (if you have a printed bulletin) the outline and spaces provided in the weekly bulletin.
  • Jesus without language (hand-made cartoons)
  • Free Bible Images

In whatever you decide, remember to be encouraging parents to share what they have learned in the sermon with kids, and to listen to what their kids have learned as part of the process of training them up in listening to sermons.
